Integrating Context of Statements within Description Logics
نویسندگان
چکیده
We address the problem of providing contextual information about a logical formula (e.g., provenance, date of validity, or confidence) and representing it within a logical system. In this case, it is needed to rely on a higher order or non standard formalism, or some kind of reification mechanism. We explore the case of reification and formalize the concept of contextualizing logical statements in the case of Description Logics. Then, we define several properties of contextualization that are desirable. No previous approaches satisfy all of the them. Consequently, we define a new way of contextually annotating statements. It is inspired by NdFluents, which is itself an extension of the 4dFluents approach for annotating statements with temporal context. In NdFluents, instances that are involved in a contextual statement are sliced into contextual parts, such that only parts in the same context hold relations to one another, with the goal of better preserving inferences. We generalize this idea by defining contextual parts of relations and classes. This formal construction better satisfies the properties, although not entirely. We show that it is a particular case of a general mechanism that NdFluents also instantiates, and present other variations.

Typological Description of Written Formative Feedback on Student Writing in an EFL Context
This study is a typological description of written formative feedback in an EFL context in Iran. Twenty M.A. students of TEFL participated in the study. They were required to summarize a scholarly article in each session on which the instructor would provide written corrective feedback (CF). Written formative comments were extracted, coded, and categorized into various types, such as asking for...
متن کاملBridge principles and combined reasoning
Hume’s well-known objection on the purported connections between ‘is’ and ‘ought’ in philosophical argumentation gave rise to a quarrel about the legitimacy of statements that bind factualities to norms. The idea of bridge principle has been inaugurated as statements which precisely crystallize principles of mixed reasoning. We critically examine the role of bridge principles within the context...
متن کاملDistributed Reasoning with Fuzzy Description Logics
By the development of Semantic Web, increasing demands for vague and distributed information representation have triggered a mass of theoretical and applied researches of fuzzy and distributed ontologies, whose main logical infrastructures are fuzzy and distributed description logics. However, current solutions are proposed respectively on one of these two aspects. By integrating E -connection ...
متن کاملPlanning in Action Formalisms based on DLs: First Results
In this paper, we continue the recently started work on integrating action formalisms with description logics (DLs), by investigating planning in the context of DLs. We prove that the plan existence problem is decidable for actions described in fragments of ALCQIO. More precisely, we show that its computational complexity coincides with the one of projection for DLs between ALC and ALCQIO.
